Non Resident Students
Understanding the Permit Process
In case there is any uncertainty, the Intra-District Permit process only applies under specific circumstances and does not indicate Open Enrollment at a school. Lanai Road Elementary School is a neighborhood school and will enroll all resident families before considering non-resident applicants. At this time, Lanai Road is at capacity and follows district enrollment guidelines without exception. Students residing within the designated Lanai residential boundaries are guaranteed enrollment. Only after all resident students are placed will any remaining openings be identified, which may then be filled through the official LAUSD Intra-District Permit process. Lanai Road does not participate in Open Enrollment or have a lottery, and requests outside of the established process will not be accommodated.
Information About Permits at Lanai Road (Updated 10/1/2025)
- Space Availability: Lanai Road is at capacity for the 2025-2026 school year and based on our resident enrollment we do not expect the numbers to change for the 2026-2027 school year.
- Submitting a Permit Application: Any initial permits submitted will not be recommended for approval and will be sent directly to appeal.
- Permit Criteria: Although LAUSD recognizes additional criteria for permits, only the following apply to Lanai Road Elementary applications (the permit application packet includes detailed documentation requirements):
-
- Child Care: Student’s childcare provider is located within the Lanai Road boundary (proof required).
- Parent Employment: One parent is physically employed within the Lanai Road boundary.
- Exception Request: Must document an extreme hardship that prevents the student from attending the assigned school. Personal preference for the school is not considered a valid reason.
